Itinerary Builder: The Ultimate 10-Day Indochina Loop

Indochina Loop

Indochina Loop

Planning a trip across Southeast Asia can be daunting. With so many borders, currencies, and transport options, it helps to have a structured plan. We have built a 10-day loop that takes you from the bustling streets of Bangkok to the serene mountains of Laos, combining ease of travel with maximum cultural impact.

Days 1-3: Bangkok Basecamp

Fly into Bangkok. As the region’s primary hub, this is the logical starting point. Treat yourself to a stay at a 5 star hotel Bangkok to recover from the long-haul flight in style. Spend your first few days adjusting to the time zone, visiting Wat Arun, and enjoying the world-class dining scene. This is your “soft landing” before the adventure begins.

Days 4-6: Vientiane, Laos

From Bangkok, take a short flight to Vientiane, the capital of Laos. Vientiane is sleepier and more laid-back than Bangkok, famous for its French colonial architecture and bakeries. A stay at a Vientiane hotel places you near the Mekong Riverfront, where the night market comes alive. Rent a bicycle—the best way to see the city—and visit the Pha That Luang stupa.

Days 7-9: Vang Vieng Adventure

Take the new high-speed train or a private transfer north to Vang Vieng. Once known for backpacker partying, it is now an eco-tourism paradise. The scenery here is breathtaking, defined by jagged limestone cliffs and green rice paddies. Booking a hotel in Vang Vieng ensures you have a comfortable viewing platform for the stunning sunsets. Spend your days kayaking on the Nam Song River or hiking to the viewpoints.

Day 10: The Return

Head back to Bangkok for your flight home. If you have a late departure, consider a quick stopover or a day room at a Don Muang airport hotel if you are flying via low-cost carrier, or stay central if flying from Suvarnabhumi.

Alternative Add-on: Malaysia

If you prefer cityscapes over mountains, swap the Laos leg for Malaysia. A quick flight south takes you to Johor Bahru. A Johor Bahru hotel is a great base to explore the southern tip of the peninsula, offering a distinct cultural mix and easy access to Singapore if you want to cross the causeway for a day trip.
